All the Heart of Portugal – Completely Vegan

Hello, we’re Tiago and Gerda – the founders of Plantuguese. Inspired by the overwhelming praise for our food, and encouraged by friends and family to share our culinary creations, we merged ‘plant-based’ with ‘Portuguese’ – and Plantuguese was born. Our mission was clear: to introduce authentic Portuguese flavours to the vegan community and beyond.

After starting small to prove the concept, we decided to think big – moving away from food events and market stalls towards opening our own vegan restaurant in Bristol. We wanted to continue celebrating Portuguese heritage while supporting a plant- based future, combining our love of traditional food with modern flavours.

Leaving our previous endeavours to launch our Stokes Croft restaurant was a leap of faith for us, but a risk well worth taking, and it’s been a dream realised. Beyond just mouthwatering meals and vibrant cocktails, Plantuguese serves up a vision: by promoting a plant-based lifestyle and honouring Portuguese cuisine and culture, it inspires a lifestyle that is both compassionate and enriching.

Tiago’s expert culinary skills, passed down from his grandmother, are combined with a deep love of traditional Portuguese flavours, resulting in mouthwatering, authentic dishes with a vegan twist; it’s a journey of discovery, where every bite tells a story of heritage and passion.

We strive to sell to our customers not only a plant-based meal, but an entire experience: one steeped in delicious food, fantastic service and a vibrant atmosphere – all served with a side of compassion.
